Artika’s top ten for 2015
It seems it was just yesterday that I was jotting down my list of five for 2014, and here I am sitting down again, listing for 2015.The year has flown by….God knows where!!!! The one thing that has been consistent in my life has been “Reading” – for pleasure and work. And ain’t I lucky????? Reading for work is like a dream come true- well most of the time! The books and manuscripts that came our way this year were a mixed bag . While some have taken me on an exhilarating ride and are true literary marvels, there were a few that disappointed and were an ordeal to read. Coming back to the reviewed books that have been worth my while, here goes my list for 2015……
A very well researched and beautifully written piece of historical fiction!!!
Without giving much away, all I can say is that Dinah Jefferies’s novel is a page turner!!! Enjoy it with endless cups of Ceylon tea as this one is very difficult to put down!!!
The account is not only heart wrenching, it is a valuable plethora of little known( or should one say…carefully withheld) facts pertaining to the Indian contribution towards a war that had nothing to do with the politics of India.
The reading experience is as exciting as trying piece together a puzzle. And YES!!!!!!In the end it all falls in place and what you see before you is a story that is complex, yet emotionally rewarding. A must read, especially for ones who enjoy fantasy!!!!!!
What you are sure to get from a book by Anuja Chauhan are peppy dialogues, a crackling chemistry between the lead pair and some wicked humour to add to the mix. ( reviewed by Sapna Khajuria for The Good Book Corner)
This one is definitely one for your library, because …………..”A man’s library opens up his character to the world”( The Last Bookaneer).
The book is full of little quotes and gems that bring a smile to the face. Even through the sad moments, there is a warm, fuzzy feeling that strengthens the belief, that in the end, everything will be alright!!!!!!
This is undoubtedly one of the best books that I have read in some time. Have always answered in the negative when people have suggested that I start playing too. After reading this book, I am not so sure. The thrill of the game and the allure of the courses is too tempting.
Memory Man is a stand alone novel, but I do hope I get to see more of Amos Decker in the future. One cannot but help, marvelling at Baldacci’s ability to make the reader want more, even after the book ends.
And going back to the classics….especially in today’s world scenario. Dickens was a master storyteller and this particular masterpiece can well depict the events and mindset today…..
