My Top 5

As a child I loved Enid Blyton books, and as a teenager I read up all the Sidney Sheldon and Jeffrey Archer books. In the last few years, I have not read much fiction, but read lots of non-fiction now.

A Book That Made an Impact

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

There was a story in the book where a man is sitting on a bench with his kids running and creating a ruckus. He is doing nothing and just sitting. The person next to him is getting visibly irritated and he cannot hold himself. He tells that man to take care of his children as they are disturbing everyone.
To this the person says “I am sorry as I have just come back from the funeral of my wife and was not paying attention”.

This incident in the book always stays with me. In interpersonal relationships, itis important to understand the context of the other person’s behavior. Empathy enables paradigm shifts in one’s thinking, and makes for better relationships in personal and professional set-ups.

There were many such anecdotes in the book and I keep going back to the book many times.
